JAC Motor is planning to launch the JS9, a rugged and adventure sport utility vehicle, in the Australian market. The launch of the SUV sibling of T9 may take place in 2027 with a starting price of $50,000, and the cost for the top trim may go up to $70,000.
In the international market, it is available as a 7-seater with a layout of 2-3-2 with decent cargo space. The dimensions in terms of length, width and height are 5,330 mm, 1,965 mm and 1,920 mm, respectively. The wheelbase is 3110 mm, and ground clearance is 210 mm.
The Chinese automakers will introduce the JS9 with a traditional powertrain; reports say that a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) may also be launched later. Its launch in Australia is expected to give tough competition to the Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner and Isuzu MU-X.
How’s its design?
The design for Australia is expected to be the same as the internal market. On the front, it features a large upright grille that gives a strong road presence; a chunky bumper provides off-road protection; LED headlamps reflect a modern and aggressive look; and a high bonnet provides a commanding driving stance. Overall, its front fascia is rugged and aggressive with a truck-like SUV identity.
The boxy silhouette makes it a classic off-road SUV look and focuses on practicality; it gets large wheel arches enabling it to support big tyres for off-road use. It stretches quite long to give it a full-size SUV presence, and high ground improves approach and departure angles. The roof rails and flat roofline add utility as well as adventure styling.
At the rear, there’s a wide tailgate that improves boot access and gives it a strong SUV stance. It features LED tail lamps in horizontal styling that makes the car look wider and more premium. The rear also gets a chunky bumper which makes it off-road friendly, and the high rear stance gives a balanced rugged look.
What about the interior?
Like the design, the interior is also going to be the same as the international market, which features a spacious cabin with high-tech and smart features; because of its long length, all occupants get ample legroom that makes long trips and family use possible. The leatherette seats are electrically adjustable, which ensures comfort for long-distance driving.
It gets automatic climate control and dedicated rear AC vents and heated seats in front. It features a large touchscreen infotainment system with a premium UI and controls and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets a wireless phone charging pad, USB and Type-C ports, keyless entry and push-button start, and a surround-view camera system.

It comes with six airbags, which include front, side and curtain, playing a crucial role in saving life occupants. It features a stability control system, a traction control system, and ADAS that includes Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection and High Beam Assist. It also includes TPMS, parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
What’s its powertrain and performance?
In Australia, it is expected to come with 2.0L turbocharged petrol (inline-4), whose displacement is 1998 cc. It generates the power of 224 hp and torque of 390 Nm, providing strong mid-range performance and smooth highway driving.
The drivetrain is all-wheel drive, making it capable of serious off-road use, and the transmission is 8-speed automatic, resulting in smooth shifting and better efficiency. The acceleration timing of 0-100 km/h is 9-10 seconds, and top speed goes up to 170-190 km/h.
The fuel efficiency is expected to be 9–11 km/l, depending on the driving conditions. As it features a fuel tank that is likely to be around 70-75 litres, it is most probable that the range on the fuel tank will be around 600-650 km.
