Kia To Launch Next-Gen Sonet In 2027: Feature-Loaded SUV With Bigger Screens & More Space

Kia Motors will launch the next generation for the Sonet in early 2027, whose ex-showroom price is expected to start from ₹9.5 lakh and go up to ₹17 lakh for the top-end trim. In the Indian market, the Kia Sonet was introduced back in September 2020, and then a facelift was launched in January 2024.

The next-gen Kia Sonet is all set to be based on the K1 platform, which supports both the latest electrical and electronics (E&E). It is set to be introduced with many upgrades to its specifications and features. In the Indian market, it will compete with Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

Come With Crystal-Cut Dual-Tone Alloy Wheels

The next-gen Kia Sonet is all set to feature a signature Tiger Nose Grille that gives a strong road presence, and it comes with Crown Jewel LED headlamps with DRLs featuring sleek and connected styling that not only improves visibility but also gives a premium feel. The front bumper is quite sporty, which makes its appearance now more sporty.

On the sides, it features a strong sport utility vehicle stance to give an SUV-like feel, and crystal-cut dual-tone alloy wheels add a premium touch as well as sportiness. The rear gets signature star-map styling connected LED tail lamps, a sculpted tailgate, a rear spoiler and a rear spoiler to make its back modern, wide and visually striking.

Features Level 2 ADAS

The next-generation Kia Sonet is also to get a double-screen setup of 12.3 inches, large compared to 10.25 units in the outgoing model, with a premium sound system. The one for infotainment supports wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, built-in navigation with live traffic updates, voice commands and OTA software updates; and a digital instrument cluster with speed, RPM, fuel, range, navigation directions, drive mode information, etc.

It gets an electric sunroof, wireless charging, multi-colour ambient lighting, an air purifier with virus protection, push-button start, cruise control, and others. The front seats are ventilated, and the driver’s seat is powered. For rear seating passengers’ comfort, it is set to feature rear AC vents and an armrest. For safety, it gets Level 2 ADAS featuring adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and autonomous emergency braking.

Wheelbase May Be Increased

The dimensions for the next-generation Kia Sonet are yet to be made public. It is most likely that its length, width and height will remain the same as the outgoing model’s, which are 3995 mm, 1800 mm, and 1640 mm. Its wheelbase is expected to be 2520 mm, 20 mm more than that of the existing one to give ample legroom for rear-seating passengers.

The ground clearance is also expected to be the same as the current Sonet, which is 205 mm, good enough to pass the potholes and speed breakers. The seating of 5 people is set to be available in configurations of 2 and 3, and boot space is most likely slightly above 385 litres, which is capable of carrying 3 big pieces of luggage.

To Be Available 3 Engine Options

The next-generation Kia Sonet will be introduced with three engine options, which are going to be 1.2L NA Petrol, 1.0L Turbo Petrol and 1.5L Diesel. The first one generates the power of 83 hp and torque of 115 Nm, the second one’s power output is 120 hp and maximum torque is 172 Nm, and the third one generates the power of 116 hp and torque of 250 Nm.

The NA Petrol, Turbo Petrol and Diesel come with a 5-speed manual engine, a 6-speed iMT & 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed manual & 6-speed automatic gearbox, respectively. The drivetrain for all three engine options is front-wheel drive (FWD), which is good for city driving and also improves fuel efficiency.

The expected top speed, acceleration timing and fuel efficiency for the 1.2 petrol engine are 13 seconds, 155-165 km/h and 18 kmpl; for the 1.0 turbo petrol, they are 11-11.9 seconds, 170-180 km/h and 18-19 kmpl; and for the 1.5 diesel engine, they are 11-12 seconds, 170-180 km/h and 20-24 kmpl, respectively.
